Pianos and A Torture Test

Today I played around with running different sounds through AriesVerb (as I often do). I was surprised how strong the modulation already is in the default program "Temple of the Ancestors". I played a—cough—free interpretation of the Pastoral sonata through AriesVerb. You can listen to it here.

Another notable sound I found functions like a torture test for algorithmic reverbs. It's a machine gun! This sound can expose many a weakness, and make reverbs fail that sound flawless otherwise. I designed a forest-like environment for exactly this to sound good. This preset will be available in the next update, as it makes use of some new algorithmic features. The sound example, first dry then 100% wet, here.

AriesVerb 0.7.1 released

It has been a long journey, and now AriesVerb advances to the next level. The improvements are many, and the space on this page is too short to list them. If you have been enjoying AriesVerb already, think of the new one as the old one, plus:

The full release notes explaining each of these items are available on the product page.

Beta test successful — new product page online

I am proud to annouce the closed beta test for AriesVerb has completed successfully. This was an important stage in the development, during which the new interface was put to the test, as well as the improved sound engine. It was possible to iron out many bugs and rough edges. Respect to all volunteers.

The current version is 0.7 and will be available over the next couple of days. There is already a new product page online with all the details, sound examples and the manual, here.

New screenshots and sound examples

Presented here are screenshots and sound examples likely to be representative of the final product. Compared to the latest public release (0.4a), the algorithm is now improved significantly without taxing too much on the CPU. Also, the work on the user interface is now mostly finished.

AriesVerb 0.4 released  Hitsquad.com Editor's Choice Award Winner

A new version of AriesVerb is available with improved stability, some new features and presets. Most importantly, it comes now with a complete PDF documentation.

The new presets include: Airplaaine (phasers), Laurel & Hardy (a flanger), Instant Honk (a chorus), PWM-alyzer (a chorus with a twist), Major Glitch (FM effect), Slapback inserts, Laser Echo, resonant lowpass and highpass filters (yes, it's possible), Auto wah-wah, and some others.

If the Hold parameter is active, the feedback loop is closed and recycling infinitely. The Dr. Who parameter controls whether the delay lines are cleared between progam changes. If they are not, then switching between programs may create all sorts of unpredictable clicks and noises. These parameters are themselves not part of a program, which may confuse some hosts.

Parameter are now free from clicking and popping, which improves usability with automation. This was previously broken, because the delay line pointers were reset on any parameter change, even if they didn't had to.

Thanks for the Feedback!

Thanks to all who gave feedback on the initial alpha version. There was a problem that prevented AriesVerb from being recognized by a large number of hosts. This should have been fixed. The current version, AriesVerb 0.1a, has been updated. It was tested on these hosts:
